Driver Error About Traffic Triggers Illegal Parking

Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-dept. Head, Harlem Simanjuntak revealed that the driver error in understanding traffic signs and markings is one of the triggers of rampant illegal parking on the roadside and the sidewalk.

The point is you allow park if the sign has P blue and its markings

Relying on Law No. 22/2009 on Traffic and Public Transport, the driver can only park their vehicles at locations that are already have traffic signs that allow parking.

"There are still residents complaining about unavailability of the parking ban sign, so they thought they allowed to park. As a matter of fact, this is not true. The sidewalk and roadside cannot be used for parking, despite there is no parking ban sign," he expressed, Monday (2/6).

Actually, he added, parking ban sign only confirms that the place is not for parking that means vehicle cannot park recklessly, despite there is traffic sign. "The point is you allow park if the sign has P blue and its markings. Without P blue, it's not for parking," he asserted.

Nevertheless, if there are some locations allowed to park, his party will coordinate with Parking Technical Unit for Jakarta Transportation Dept. to make a sign with P blue and its markings.
